Sep 26, 2014 9:59 PM

The Cubs have a lot of work to do over the course of the winter.

Chicago has $40 million committed to just four players for it's 2013 roster. Jed Hoyer indicated that the team will focus on the starting rotation.

"We certainly have to be aggressive with starting pitching over the course of the winter," he said.

Angels Prefer To Re-Sign Greinke Over Keeping Haren, Santana

Jul 10, 2014 3:34 AM

The Angels will have a lot of decisions to make regarding their pitching staff this winter.

The belief is that they would prefer to re-sign Zack Greinke, who they acquired in a trade with the Brewers in July, even if it means cutting ties with Dan Haren and Ervin Santana.

Los Angeles holds team options on the deals of Haren ($15.5 million) and Santana ($13 million) for 2013.

Many have predicted that it will take a six years and $125 million to sign Greinke.

In addition, Youkilis has delivered timely hits and seen his OPS increase from .692 to .791.

Mets Won't Release Jason Bay

Jul 10, 2014 4:04 AM

The Mets will not absorb the $19 million that Jason Bay is owed by simply releasing him this offseason.

According to a team source, there is "zero" chance he will be released.

Bay is batting .155 with eight homers and 20 RBIs as he completes the third season of a four-year deal worth $66 million.

Jays Will Shop Aggressively In Search Of Depth, Veterans

Sep 3, 2014 7:52 AM

The Blue Jays believe they can be next season's Orioles, coming from almost nowhere to compete with the behemoths of the American League East.

Toronto has young stars in J.P. Arencibia, Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus, but they appear to lack depth and veteran leadership.

They plan to shop aggressively this offseason, looking for solutions at second, in left field and most of all in their starting rotation. Alex Anthopoulos has spent the last three years collecting draft picks and trading for other team’s problems.

D-Backs Could Still Get Good Return For Upton

Sep 26, 2014 10:04 PM

The Diamondbacks are expected to field offers for Justin Upton this winter after doing so twice within the last two years.

While his value appears to have gone down, rival executives still expect Arizona to receive a nice haul in return for Upton should they agree to a trade.

"This season does diminish his value," a National League executive said. "But there are going to be plenty of teams needing somebody like him. Somebody is going to ante up."

"If they decide to move him," said an assistant GM with an American League team, "they'll get a fairly robust return. Maybe not like before, but there's still a lot of upside.

Yankees Won't Keep Both Gardner And Ichiro In 2013

Oct 23, 2014 9:43 PM

The Yankees are unlikely to enter the 2013 season with both Ichiro Suzuki and Brett Gardner on the roster.

New York acquired Ichiro, a pending free agent, as a solution to Gardner's injury woes this season. He has added speed to the bases and played well defensively in the outfield.

However, Ichiro and Gardner are too similar, and the Yankees expect the much younger Gardner to return healthy next season. That puts the chances of Ichiro re-signing fairly low.

Blue Jays Scouted Two Games Of Athletics-Tigers Series

Jul 14, 2014 7:55 AM

The Blue Jays had two scouts present at the final two games of this week's series between the Athletics and Tigers in Detroit.

The A's and Tigers both have starting pitchers that could move this winter and Toronto is looking for depth. Oakland's Brett Anderson and Detroit's Anibal Sanchez appear to be their targets.

Anderson is under contract past this season, while Sanchez will be a free agent.
